KUALA LUMPUR Nov 23 - It's no longer enough to be just aware about Internet security for it's more important to take action to secure the information you send over the Internet as well, said Noor Azli Othman, Chief Executive Officer of Digicert Sdn Bhd today.
Digicert is the pioneer Malaysian certification authority for Internet security.
Noor Azli said companies now have to create the need ensuring users certify "digitally" the information they send over the Internet.
"When we started, we created a lot of awareness among Malaysian internet users," he said, but added that this was not enough as not many wanted to be among the first to use this process.
As such, a need had to created and one of the efforts was through Digicert's current co-operation with ASTRO and web-based employment agency, Hotspotz (www.hotspotz.com.my).
"When job seekers submit their applications to Hotspotz, they have to sign their documents in order to ensure their identity," Noor Azli said.
He also spoke about his company's partnership with Kurnia Insurance. Within the next six months, all transactions such as claims and policy updates will be done over the Internet.
In view of this, digital certification would ensure the authenticity of the information and the credibility of the person sending it, he explained.
Noor Azli said this after Government Integrated Telecommunications Network Sdn Bhd (GITN) was appointed by Digicert to be its Registration Authority (RA) for the electronic government community.
Through this partnership, GITN will provide Digicert's certification for all electronic government internet transactions to ensure security and authencity.
GITN, Digicert's third RA after Pos Malaysia and MIMOS Bhd, was represented by its general manager, Akit Sebli.
